Progress Report….or Lack Thereof

scaleSo, it’s March 16th. Spring is just about here which means summer is not too far behind. While that means our days are getting longer, the tulips are blooming (my fave flower), the temps are getting warmer…it also means warm hot humid weather, tank tops, shorts, and the dreaded bathing suit season. I had high hopes of not having these worries this summer but alas, here I am. And, you know what, I have no one or nothing to blame this on but myself. I have sucked in the getting fit and losing weight department. I’ve been nothing short of a monumental failure when it comes to sticking with this and it’s kind of freaking me out as to why. I mean, you’ve read my blog, I am really good at laying out what I need to do, what I need to change, etc. Yet, actually doing it is a whole other thing entirely and I entirely suck at it.

I don’t know why I am writing this—this may just make you all second guess why you read my blog—it certainly isn’t for inspiration that’s for sure. I am not giving up. You don’t gain anything good by quitting. I’ll never surrender to this fight. I will have to suffer through another hot summer and just suck it up when it comes time to wearing summer clothes or going to the pool. I refuse to sit on the sidelines and have my kids look back and wonder why I didn’t always go swimming with them or didn’t feel as excited that summer was here. Especially swimming since there are few places on earth where I would like to be more. I love swimming. That’s why we built where we did—it had a pool at the end of our street. A lovely pool.

Dammit.

Today is the first 60 degree day in Minnesota of 2009. I am going for a walk around the neighborhood after work. And then tomorrow I will head to the gym. And then again on Wednesday morning followed by another walk. Rinse and repeat. Over and over again until it becomes a habit and for the rest of my life. If you know me in real life and/or work with me, call me out when you see me not following my plan or having a suspicious meal, drink, etc. Say it in code, like “Looks like a good day for a swim, huh?” :) I’d do it for you.

You can do it. Convince yourself! I'm taking up running this year, I bought the shoes and clothes. So I'll run and you walk and go to the gym alright?
Because it does indeed look like a nice day for a swim!

hi, stopping by from SITS.
good luck, it is so hard to get motivated. I have been doing really well with the eating until I bought a bag of iced animal cookies. That hasnt been going very well.

I'm in the same boat as you. And I have a wedding dress to wear in 4 months. FOUR MONTHS! We can be distance workout buddies. I'm going for a walk. Want me to text you when I leave to make sure you go for your walk, too?

You can do it! Keep going! I know it's hard to stay motivated, but where there's a will there's a way! Make it happen :-)

Hopefully you will feel more motivated when the nicer weather arrives.

Hey Suzi,

Why do we (women) get so down on ourselves? We feel we are never good enough where we are at and that some one else must always have it easier or "better" .... I truly believe the grass ISN'T greener on the other side.

I have started exercising...I HAVE to do some thing every day to make it part of my LIFE or it doesn't work. (So far it has worked for about 2 months!) Don't get me wrong I live for food, sweets, summer BBQ's, etc... but, I have started to have it in smaller amounts OR I realize if I die tomorrow the extra cupcake probably wasn't what killed me. And I will be glad I had it! :o)

The old story of fruits, veggies, exercise, and moderation of all is key....just start with that.

For funny and very thought provoking exercise comments have you ever read www.thegreatfitnessexperiment.blogspot.com
if not go there...she is from MN too and covers a lot of different issues.

Good Luck!
