Where’s Bobby Trendy when you need him?

bobby_trendy

Remember Bobby Trendy, from the Anna Nicole Show on E!? He was her personal decorator. He loved pink, leopard prints, and lip gloss. He has such flare for design. Wonder if he’s still available? Probably not…

We ordered a new sectional sofa for our main family room off of the kitchen back in March. We’ve been wanting to replace what we had in that room ever since we built the house in 2006. I could never figure out how to furnish that room. I knew I wanted to find something that seats a lot of people and that is durable and comfortable. I am not a fru-fru type of of furniture gal so I could never find anything I like. Finally, we found this awesome beast and have been waiting and waiting for it to arrive. Its super comfortable, seats a billion, and it rocks.

I am not the best decorator and my ability to accessorize is seriously failing. I can’t figure out how to decorate this room. My neighbor has an amazing eye for decoration and every time I go to her house I try and memorize how she has things organized and laid out so I can try and replicate it at my house. Except, I can never do it. I don’t want to rip her style off or anything, but I just wish I could see spaces like she sees them. Take for example, the window above the sofa in the above picture. I am thinking of putting some framed black and white photos of the girls there. Like a series of 3 frames that span the length of the window. What do you think? My neighbor did something like this and I loved it. It’s such a huge wall I don’t know what to do and I am afraid that if left to my own devices, I will destroy it. :(

Here’s another picture of that room:

IMG_3085 Kaitlyn promptly claimed the chaise lounge part of the sofa as her new bed and has been asleep on it for the last 2 hours. She wanted to move her clothes and everything downstairs and was FREAKING OUT when we said no. She seriously wanted to claim that as her new bedroom. Holy cow was that funny. She was pissed. HA.

Also, I need lighting advice. The corner above K’s head is where we used to have a lamp but now it’s empty. Dark. I think we’ll need to buy a floor lamp. But which one? Yikes.

So, either I am going to hire my neighbor and pay her in cupcakes because that’s all I’ve got to spend on this adventure…or I will track down Bobby Trendy and Lord knows what I’ll end up with.

Love the couch. We got a sectional about a year ago and I had a hard time figuring out which one! Ours is a deep red (but not cabernet red, apparently it's called bright claret. I don't get the difference exactly.) I'm hoping I don't regret the color in a couple years. I don't have a lot on the walls because we are only renting right now and half our stuff is in storage but I have all the frames for pictures in black and have two black and white pictures in the room. I'd love to add a picture I have of a man and woman dancing in the rain because her dress is exact to the color of the couch. That pulls it all together.
You could look through potterybarn catalogs or magazines to see what you like and copy from there.

I like accessorizing with throw pillows, one or two with a nice print in a complimentary color or something. PIllows are super easy to make too if you're so inclined and easy to change out for seasons or when you need a new look. Then you can find your favorite upholstery fabric, get some filler and go crazy. I have about ten pillows hanging around from previous years. Our playroom couches are nearly the same shade as your couch.

And I've written too much so I'll say have fun decorating and go now!

I'm stopping in from SITS. I love photo idea - maybe some nature shots. You might want to consider color though. Jazz things up. Maybe you could get a couple throw pillows too to introduce some color to the room. Lighting is a big deal, if you get a torchiere, make sure you get one that can support a 3 way bulb - they're the bomb.

That is a beautiful sectional. It will come to you. We moved to our new place in March and I still haven't finished. Waiting for the mood to strike me. Hopping over from sits...

Great couch! Love the idea of the b/w photos under the window. I'd use large white mats and black frames. :)
