I admit that my daughter has a few of these dolls. Most were gifts and one she paid for herself. However-I will say that I believe that the money was well spent. My daughter plays beautifully with these dolls for hours on end. There is no tv on, no video games, just pure authentic play. I'd rather spend $90 on one quality item that gets played with all day than $100 of crap that she ends up playing with once or twice and then loses interest.

My daughter is still too young to even say American Girl Doll let alone want one, which I am thankful for. BUT if it isn't American Girl Dolls then it will be something else. It drives me crazy that companies market directly to kids and cause so many issues for parents!

I have boys!! Yay! I have a friend who has two girls - and they have the dolls and have visited a store somewhere on vacation. The mom does cooking camps in her home in the spring, and has one with the American Doll theme and the girls bring their dolls and make fun snacks and learn about cooking. Pretty neat, but what a hefty price tag!

a friend of mine pointed me to the only hearts club or is it loving hearts? cheaper dolls, still nie looking, not as huge, and they come with books and clothes too. tht is one idea, especially for younger children.

Yes, mine is a bit too young still.... but I'm sure my time will come for me to try and avoid it. I'm sure it's not easy, as I think it would be fun myself!!!

They got their nasty claws on us-4 dolls in and Lots of extras.
I admit it, I started it (waiting for the slap). It started with the bitty baby when she was 2 and then it moved to Hopscotch Hill (no longer available-but should be-they are perfect for the tween 3-8 stage) and now those dolls-I could hit myself, but really, they are cool-Im a sucker.
Side Note: Im not as nuts as some-there are WOMEN who have no kids and set their dolls up and dedicate rooms to them, now thats out of hand.
